Laura Santiago, Dental Assistant
Laura’s tasks as dental assistant are to help the Dr. Kaltchev stay on schedule, prepare and sterilize rooms and equipment, maintain supplies, ensure lab work is completed, and assist the doctor in all procedures.
My old family dentist was the one who suggested this field of work; people ask why I want to work in people’s mouths. It’s the gateway to the body! It’s fascinating. I always asked questions when I was a kid, and loved getting to pick out my own toothpaste flavor.
Laura lives in Villa Park, IL. She completed the dental assisting program at College of DuPage in 2015, and became certified in coronal polishing and placing fissure sealants in 2016. She says the best part of her job is the diversity, because no two patients are the same:
Relieving them of pain or handing them a mirror to see their new smile after treatment are some of the best feelings in the world.
When she’s not assisting the Dr. Kaltchev, Laura likes visiting the Oak Brook and Yorktown malls, finding the best doughnuts around, and enjoying sunshiny days outside with friends and family (she’s the middle child between 2 brothers), or going to one of the local forest preserves for lunch and a walk. Laura treasures her best friend of 15 years, and her grandmother, who is the best person she knows. Given a year off with pay to do anything, she’d travel her way across the world, making sure to stop in Switzerland and the Islands of Ibiza, experiencing it all with the ones she loves.
